About Me

I’m Carmela Arguimbau, an Argentinian illustrator based in Edinburgh, Scotland, working primarily in watercolour and ink. My work is inspired by manga, Studio Ghibli, sumi-e, and the folk stories and magic of the Scottish landscape and my South American heritage.

Art has always been my passion, and moving to the UK allowed me to pursue it more seriously and professionally. I hold a BA (Hons) in Visual Communication and an HND in Illustration, with earlier studies in Buenos Aires and continued professional development in the UK. My experience includes book covers and interior illustration, greeting cards, portraits, and personal narrative projects.

I’m a member of the Association of Illustrators (AOI, UK). Alongside commissioned illustration, I host watercolour workshops and offer live portrait illustration for weddings and events, creating expressive, hand-painted keepsakes on the day.

When I’m not painting, you’ll usually find me baking sourdough, playing guitar, or exploring nature with my partner and our adventurous cat, Billie.

2025 was a year of becoming.
I finished my BA (Hons) — the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I showed my work at my first wedding fair, hosted my very first workshop, and slowly started trusting myself as an illustrator beyond uni.
There were moments of doubt, pauses, learning curves, and so much growth in between, supported by friendship, love, and community.
Thank you 2025 for the lessons, the opportunities, and the reminder that things take time.
Here's to a 2026 continuing the path of growth and doing what I love! Cheers! 💕

After a few months of hosting these art days, I’m finally sharing it here.
When I finished college, I barely touched my sketchbook. Creating felt heavy and distant.
But organizing these little meet-ups, painting together or doing a seasonal craft, baking, hosting, spending slow time with friends, quietly brought me back to my creativity.
This space is for me too. No pressure, no expectations. Friends can come if they can, and if not, that’s okay.
I love offering a place where art can exist gently, socially, and without needing a reason. 💕

Presenting you "The Dome in Christmas" ! and that’s my Christmas collection complete 🎄

I couldn’t finish this little project without illustrating The Dome. Seeing it all lit up at Christmas it's such an inspiration for my art and it always makes me smile, and it felt like the perfect way to close this collection.

All of these cards were inspired by slow winter walks around Edinburgh and noticing the small festive details that make the city feel extra magical this time of year.

What a night!
We started the workshop by exploring different watercolour techniques: colour passages, spots, plain colour, and a few fun Japanese brushstroke tricks. Then we put everything into practice by painting my hand-traced autumn fox design!

Even though everyone worked from the same drawing, every fox came out with its own personality, different colours, moods, and little details. It was such a joy to see everyone make it their own!

The vibes were fantastic, the chats were lovely, and hosting this workshop genuinely filled my heart. The warm drinks and chocolate treat from @slyfoxfood were the perfect cosy touch 🧡

Hope everyone had as much fun as I did, thank you for making it such a magical evening! ✨

What a lovely group! So much laughter, creativity, and cosy vibes packed into one evening. It made my heart so full watching everyone bring the artwork to life in their own way. Even though we all painted the same scene, every single piece had such personality!

One of my favourite things to offer is hand-traced drawings for everyone who comes along. I know not everyone feels confident with drawing, and that’s totally okay, I want you to sit down, relax, and enjoy painting without any pressure.

So when you arrive, your autumn scene will already be traced for you by me, lovingly and by hand. We’ll paint together side by side, and you can just focus on having fun, playing with colours, and enjoying a cosy evening out. I’m reintroducing myself here on Instagram as I turn the page into a new chapter. Finishing my Visual Communication degree marked the end of an intense but rewarding journey, and now I’m stepping into freelance life with fresh motivation (and new branding to match!🐸).

An Illustration inspired in Brave. Ever since coming to Scotland to live brave is just first thing comes into mind when I go hiking in the woods. I went for a weekend to Elgin last year and we stayed in a lovely farm house. Next day we went for a walk to the closest forest and it was just magical. From that inspiration I wanted to make this drawing, inspired by the plants and trees I saw, and imagining Merida sleeping there with her bear mom. So cool!
